Projecting on Alan’s Dome
Alan has a new geodesic dome that he’s using as a meeting/experimentation venue. The beautiful white triangles that comprise the upper portion of the dome were crying out for projection. We found that three short-throw projectors on custom shelves covered the entire ceiling. With a little finessing, we cleaned up all the overlaps and tried out a variety of movies. At some point, we’ll 3D map it but for the moment we’ve mapped it in 2D. With this setup, we’ve created a semi-kaleidoscopic ceiling that works wonderfully with textural nature movies such as water, plants, and clouds. Now we’re experimenting to see what else works. Even in its current configuration, the effect is dazzling.
